Join the team building Defcon Zero
Help us push the boundaries of what an RTS can look like. We are looking for a 3D Character Artist for Defcon Zero, our flagship strategy title. Its a gritty, high-fidelity RTS built on Unreal Engine 5.
We need a passionate artist with a strong sense of form and a drive to create high-quality assets. You won't just be refining other people's work; you will take ownership of your own units. You will drive the full character pipeline, sculpting armor and cloth, optimizing topology for animation, and texturing assets that define the distinct visual languages of Defcon Zero.
What you will do
- Execute the full character pipeline, covering high-poly sculpting in ZBrush, retopology in Maya, and PBR texturing in Substance Painter.
- Utilize Marvelous Designer to simulate realistic clothing and gear, refining the results in ZBrush to achieve a grounded, high-fidelity look.
- Produce clean, animation-ready topology that supports proper deformation while adhering to strict RTS polygon budgets.
- Maintain consistency with existing content and project standards to ensure a cohesive visual style.
- Maintain consistent file organization and naming conventions to ensure smooth hand-offs to Rigging and Animation.
- Iterate on assets based on artistic and technical feedback to ensure they function correctly in-game.
REQUIREMENTS
Technical Qualifications:
A strong portfolio showcasing high-quality realistic character art.
Proficiency in ZBrush for high-poly sculpting and detailing.
Experience with Marvelous Designer for creating realistic clothing folds and drapery.
Proficiency in Autodesk Maya for retopology and UV unwrapping.
Experience with Substance 3D Painter for realistic PBR texturing.
Solid understanding of clean, animation-ready topology and edge flow for deformation.
Excellent visual awareness and artistic ability.
Organized with strong attention to detail.
Fluent in English (Written and Spoken).
Nice to Have:
Familiarity with general Unreal Engine 5 workflows and asset implementation.
Basic knowledge of skinning/rigging to test asset deformation.
Genuine passion for RTS games and the strategy genre.
