Join the team building Defcon Zero

Come define the look of the next generation of RTS. We are looking for a Texture Artist for Defcon Zero, our flagship strategy title. It’s a gritty, high-fidelity RTS built on Unreal Engine 5.

We are looking for a dedicated Texture Artist to define the surface identity of our world, from gritty mechanical units to high-detail character gear. You will be responsible for bringing our 3D models to life with high-end PBR textures that maintain visual clarity and storytelling in a fast-paced RTS environment.

What you will do

  • Create high-quality PBR textures for a variety of units including vehicles, machinery, and humanoid characters.
  • Use Substance Painter to develop detailed and realistic materials that align with the project’s visual style.
  • Collaborate with 3D artists to ensure texture maps are optimized for performance within Unreal Engine 5.
  • Maintain a consistent visual language across different factions and unit types in the Defcon Zero universe.
  • Iterate on materials based on lighting and gameplay requirements to ensure top-down readability.

Requirements

Technical Qualifications

  • Mastery of Substance Painter and a deep understanding of the PBR (Physically Based Rendering) workflow.
  • Proven experience in texturing hard-surface assets and character equipment for games.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a realistic or semi-realistic art style with attention to material logic and wear.
  • Solid understanding of UV mapping, baking processes, and working with UDIMs.
  • Ability to translate concept art and reference material into detailed 3D surface definitions.
  • Keen eye for detail, color theory, and how materials react to different lighting conditions.

Nice To Have

  • Proficiency in Substance Designer for creating custom procedural materials and tileables.
  • Basic knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 material graphs and shader implementation.
  • Experience in the RTS genre or understanding of top-down visual requirements.
